History of the Gallery

Inspires is a contemporary art gallery inspired by friends, Danielle Walker and Emily Ashley. The gallery is relaxed and friendly. As you walk through the front door you are greeted by a colourful, interesting and varied selection of contemporary art.

Both Emily and Danielle grew up in families who were very involved in the art world both practically and commercially. Danielle's parents were the owners of the successful Seton Walker Gallery in Summertown, Oxford during the 1980's. Danielle's interest in art flourished and in 1991 she opened her own art gallery in Cape Town, South Africa. However, five years on, her childhood roots beckoned and she returned to England aiming to establish a gallery here. Danielle worked for two years in London before coming back to Oxford to set up 'Inspires' with Emily.

Whilst Danielle was gaining her experience in the commercial art world, Emily was learning her trade in the realm of fine art. Emily attended Wolverhampton University where she obtained a degree in Art and Design. After graduation Emily discovered she had another talent, in sales, and she established a wide network of business contacts in the media world.

The Gallery specialises in the best of contemporary art and aims to show the widest possible range which can be viewed in totally relaxing surroundings. We exhibit original paintings by local as well as internationally known artists, exquisitely framed etchings and lithographs, and traditional English watercolours, to bronze sculptures and figures, and ceramics and glassware from an extensive range of sources. A regular programme of exhibitions shows the very latest works.
